Mega fans trend #BhairavamBoycott after an old post mocking Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan resurfaces.
Hyderabad, May 30, 2025 — The Telugu action film Bhairavam released in theatres today. But instead of just box office buzz, it’s facing major backlash. An old and offensive meme has returned online, targeting Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan. Fans of the Mega family are calling for a boycott of Bhairavam, using hashtags like #BoycottBhairavam and #MegaFamilyInsulted.
What’s the Controversy?
In 2011, a morphed photo mocking Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan was posted on social media. Now, over a decade later, screenshots of that post are going viral again. People claim it was shared by Bhairavam‘s director Vijay Kanakamedala.
Fans are upset that someone who allegedly disrespected the Mega family is now directing a major film.
Director’s Response: ‘My Account Was Hacked’
Director Vijay quickly responded to the issue. He said he never made that post.
“My Facebook account was hacked in 2011. I didn’t post that image. I have great respect for Chiranjeevi garu and Ram Charan,” Vijay said in an interview.
He added that it’s unfair to judge Bhairavam for a controversy that may not even be real.
Manchu Manoj Apologizes to Mega Fans
At a promotional event, actor Manchu Manoj offered a public apology. While he didn’t directly mention the meme, his words were clearly aimed at calming fans.
“If any fan of the Mega family is hurt, I’m truly sorry. We love and respect them,” Manoj said emotionally.
Some fans accepted the apology. Others felt it wasn’t enough.
About Bhairavam: What the Film Offers
Bhairavam is the Telugu remake of the Tamil film Garudan. It stars Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas, Manchu Manoj, and Nara Rohith. The film is directed by Vijay Kanakamedala, who earlier made hits like Naandhi and Ugram.
The story is set in a rural area. It explores deep friendships, betrayal, and the fight for justice. The film has action, emotion, and strong performances.
Box Office and Public Reaction
Despite the boycott calls, Bhairavam opened to a decent audience on Day 1. Early reviews say the film is “gripping” and “well-acted.”
Still, the online outrage continues. Fans of Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan are divided. Some are watching the film for its cast. Others are refusing to support it.

Conclusion
Bhairavam may be a well-made film. But it’s now caught between success and scandal. Only time will tell whether audiences move past the boycott or let it impact the film’s run.
