India Launches New Solar Project to Bring Electricity to Villages

The Government of India has started a new solar energy project to bring electricity to remote villages in the country. This project is called “Surya Shakti Yojana” and aims to help more than 10,000 villages in the next two years.

Many villages in India still do not have regular electricity. People in these areas often use kerosene lamps or wood for lighting, which can be dangerous and unhealthy. With this new solar plan, homes will get solar panels that can power lights, fans, and small appliances.

Minister for Power and Renewable Energy, Mr. Rajesh Sharma, said, “This is a big step for clean energy and rural development. Solar power is safe, cheap, and good for the environment.”

Local villagers are happy about the plan. Sunita Devi, a resident of a village in Bihar, said, “We have never had electricity in our house. Now my children can study at night.”

The government is working with Indian solar companies to set up panels and train local workers to maintain them. The plan also creates jobs for young people in rural areas.

This project supports India’s larger goal of using more renewable energy and reducing pollution. By 2030, India wants to produce 50% of its electricity from clean energy sources like solar and wind.
