A cult classic returns, rewriting the rules of re-releases
In an unexpected turn at the box office, Mahesh Babu’s 2010 film Khaleja has stormed back into theatres — and into the record books. The film has now become the highest-grossing re-release in Telugu cinema history, collecting a massive ₹11.83 crore worldwide in just three days.
By contrast, Prabhas’ Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, re-released earlier this year, managed ₹4 crore in four days, making Khaleja’s performance all the more impressive. ALSO READ: “Fans Scolded Producer After Khaleja Flop” Know The Truth

Salaar’s re-release trail fades
Prabhas’ Salaar, which originally hit screens in December 2023, was re-released in March 2025. Despite fanfare, its performance lagged behind expectations. According to Koimoi, Salaar collected ₹3.18 crore on Day 1, but saw a significant dip in the following days, closing at ₹4 crore after four days.

Overseas love lifts Khaleja further
Khaleja’s re-release didn’t just shine in India. The film created a storm overseas — especially in North America, where it grossed over $108,000 (approx. ₹90 lakh) within two days.
According to Box Office updates reported by India Today and Times of India, this makes Khaleja the highest-grossing Indian re-release ever in the United States, overtaking previous record-holders like Chiranjeevi’s Indra.

From flop to phenomenon
When it first released in October 2010, Khaleja received mixed responses and struggled at the box office. But over time, the film grew in popularity, achieving cult status among Mahesh Babu fans for its unconventional plot, wit, and depth.
